At 69 Centre St in Thornhill, KingsGate Luxury Homes completed a custom build that announces itself with a formal French-inspired facade, then rewards every room beyond the front door with warm materials, dramatic stone, and meticulous craftsmanship. The interplay between pale Calacatta marble and dark Nero Marquina stone runs as a through-line from the kitchen backsplash to the family room fireplace to the basement wet bar, giving this project a coherence that is immediately felt throughout.
The Front Facade: Classical Columns and a Modern Pivot Door
The street elevation is built around a covered entry portico with classical fluted columns and a coffered ceiling with recessed pot lights. A modern fluted black pivot door with a long brass vertical pull handle anchors the entry, flanked by a glass sidelite and brass rectangular wall sconces on each side. Stone masonry steps with frameless glass railings lead up to the portico. The white rendered facade carries classical cornice moulding and horizontal banding, while the upper level has white-trimmed dormers set into a charcoal shingle roof. A double garage with black aluminum-framed glass panel doors sits to the left, approached via a two-tone interlock stone paver driveway framed by a manicured front lawn.
Main Floor Home Office
Just off the entry, a dedicated main floor office is outfitted with a full wall of grey flat-front built-in cabinetry: a grid of LED-lit open shelves and closed upper cabinets with matte black C-bar handles. A coffered tray ceiling with LED cove lighting and wide-plank hardwood floors carry the main floor’s design language into the workspace.
Open-Concept Living and Dining
The open-concept living and dining area is defined by multi-level coffered tray ceilings with LED cove lighting that span the full footprint. A gold sputnik chandelier hangs above the dining zone. The feature wall is finished in a gold and bronze metallic textured wallpaper that runs floor to ceiling, anchored at one end by a white painted millwork fireplace surround with a linear insert and flanked by brass wall sconces. Wide-plank warm-toned hardwood floors run throughout, and oversized sliding glass doors along the rear wall open to the backyard deck.
The Family Room: Walnut Built-Ins and a Black Marble Fireplace
The dedicated family room at the rear is anchored by a full-width built-in wall unit with white painted frames and inset natural walnut wood panels. Centred in the unit is a full-height black marble fireplace surround, its surface carrying gold and copper veining throughout. A linear fireplace insert sits at the base. Multi-panel sliding glass doors open the room directly to the rear deck, and the multi-level coffered tray ceiling with LED cove lighting and built-in ceiling speakers continues from the living area.
The Kitchen: Book-Matched Calacatta and a Walnut-Wrapped Island
The kitchen at 69 Centre St is one of the most visually commanding of any KingsGate project. White flat-front cabinetry lines the perimeter at lower level, while floor-to-ceiling natural walnut veneer panels wrap the upper cabinets and integrated refrigerator on the right side, all fitted with gold bar handles. The back wall is anchored by a full-height book-matched Calacatta marble slab backsplash, its bold gold and brown veining forming a near-symmetrical pattern behind the 6-burner professional gas range. The large waterfall island carries the same Calacatta marble surface with a walnut veneer base, matte black undermount sink, and matte black faucet. A brass branch-and-globe pendant chandelier hangs above. Under-cabinet LED strip lighting illuminates the perimeter counters, and a stainless wall oven stack sits within the walnut cabinetry on the right.
Main Floor Powder Room
The main floor powder room makes a bold statement in a compact space. Dark charcoal crackle-textured wallpaper covers the walls floor to ceiling, offset by a white marble countertop and undermount sink with a matte black three-hole widespread faucet, and a gold-framed mirror with black border above.
Staircase and Upper Skylight Foyer
The staircase features dark stained oak open treads, an oak handrail, and black iron rectangular balusters. The staircase wall is clad in white wainscoting panel moulding. At the top of the stairs, the upper landing opens into a coffered pyramid ceiling with LED cove lighting and a central square skylight that draws natural light into the heart of the upper floor.
Primary Walk-In Closet
The primary walk-in closet is a corridor-style dressing room lined on both sides with custom grey flat-front cabinetry. Warm walnut veneer backing panels are set into each unit, and LED strip lighting runs vertically along the cabinet edges for a warm ambient glow. Open shelving spans both long walls, with a bank of drawers fitted with matte black C-bar handles at the end. A small skylight brings natural light down from above.
Primary Ensuite
The primary ensuite is anchored by a white flat-front double vanity with gold/brass bar handles and a distinctive gold metal trim edge. The white marble countertop carries two undermount sinks with polished chrome cross-handle faucets, below two tall frameless mirrors each lit by a gold crystal-style wall sconce. An integrated makeup vanity desk sits between the sink run and the soaker tub station. The freestanding white oval soaker tub is positioned in front of a large picture window overlooking the tree canopy, with a chrome floor-mounted tub filler. Large-format polished marble tile runs underfoot. The walk-in shower is clad in large-format white marble-look porcelain tile from floor to ceiling, with chrome cross-handle thermostatic valves.
Secondary Bedrooms and Ensuites
The upper floor bedrooms each have tray ceilings with LED cove lighting, wide-plank hardwood floors, and generous windows. Secondary ensuites are finished to the same standard: one features a grey flat-front vanity with a gold-veined marble countertop; another has a white flat-front vanity with white quartz countertop, matte black faucet, a crystal bar sconce, and a glass-enclosed shower with white Calacatta-look marble tile and a matte black square rain head with handheld.
Lower Level: Rec Room and Wet Bar
The lower level divides into an open recreation room and a dedicated wet bar. The rec room has high ceilings, white polished marble-look tile floors, recessed lighting, and double French doors that open at grade directly to the rear yard. The wet bar is a standout: dark charcoal flat-front cabinetry with gold bar handles frames a full Nero Marquina slab backsplash and dark stone countertops, echoing the marble used in the family room fireplace directly above. A brass undermount sink and brass faucet anchor one end, an under-counter beverage fridge the other, and a matching dark stone waterfall bar island provides the centrepiece. A multi-bulb candelabra pendant in matte black hangs above.
The Rear Elevation
The rear of the home presents a different character from the formal front. Light sand-toned brick cladding wraps the two-storey rear elevation, punctuated by oversized black-framed windows and multi-panel sliding glass doors opening from both the family room and the kitchen. A natural wood deck with black iron railings extends from the main floor, and French doors at the lower level provide a direct walkout from the basement to the rear yard at grade.
